On the Piper Twins and Piper Seneca Facebook groups there has been several threads/posts mentioned about the stabilator bolt issue. Apparently (despite the bolt, nut and cotter pin being visually noted during preflight) the bolt broke during "normal" flight resulting in loss of elevator control. For those of you unaware, here are links to the accident case and discussion.

Some have noted that the aircraft in question was 50 years old and was used extensively (primarily) for instruction and some of our "newer" versions "probably" haven't exerted as much wear or stress from training as this accident case. Nevertheless, while an AD was never issued, many of us Seneca owners (including myself) have advocated for the proactive replacement of this small inexpensive bolt, nut and cotter pin to prevent the "over stress" of the factory-original bolt which is apparently what happened in the accident case.

I'll add the part number (at least for the Seneca IV-V) as soon as I have it.

I replaced mine at my last annual. Nice to look in there and see that it's shiny and new and has the position-marking paint still visible on it.

Can you explain more about the position marks? Perhaps post a pic?
